ENGAGEMENT
PROPOSAL
Chris met me at the top of the stairs when I came home from work. He held both my hands and, smiling, suggested we take a nap. As I took off my earrings, I rolled over onto Roy, the sweet little teddy bear that Chris had gotten for me months before. Roy was quite clearly my favorite.

Chris mentioned that I could be squishing my bear, but as I tried to comfort his concern I realized that Roy was not working. Chris and I took turns squeezing and squezing on his hand but he would not light up. "Oh no! Roy's broken!" I said. "Here, let me see," Chris said as he carefully opened the back of the bear. To my surprise he pulled out a small tissue.

"Here's your problem... there's an engagement ring inside!" he said, pulling the ring out of the tissue. Kneeling beside the bed he said, "Baby, will you marry me?" I didn't cry, but I nearly blacked out. I had tunnel vision and a distorted sense of awareness but somehow I managed to get out, "Yes!" I'm sure my pause must have made him nervous. He put the ring on my finger and I noticed he was shaking. I was smiling so big and so hard that my face kinda hurt.

"Here's your problem...
there's an engagement ring inside!"

He mentioned he had something else to show me and took out a small, white envelope. Inside were two matching wedding bands, one for either side of the ring. He put them together so I could see what they would look like. They were quite dazzling and certainly more than I could have imagined. "But you don't get them now," he said with a smile and dropped them back in the envelope.

"What about my parents?" I said, but he told me he had already asked my Dad the weekend before. I thought that was very sweet. I immediately started thinking of all the people I wanted to call, but realizing that there was no hurry, we laid down and held each other for a couple hours instead and enjoyed our special time together.
